AUCTION : 0414

Lot#: 993

DESCRIPTION: Solomon Yeakel, Berks County {PA), walnut scroll top tall clock, with 30 hours, brass movement, made with extra gear, seconds bit and false winding posts to simulate an 8 days, clock. Dial is marked "Barcks County", from the collection of Doug Shaffer, c1800
CONDITION: solid walnut case is Heavy and robust; refinished with clear lacquer, so looks quite light. The painted dial featuring 3 birds in the arch and roses in the spandrel area is excellent, with only slight fading of the signature on the right side. 13" painted dial and signature are original and excellent. Movement was serviced, however a spring has failed and the spiked wheel is not being held against the click; secondarily the strike fan is loose on its arbor. This clock is unusual as it has false winding squares (it is pull chain wound) and also has a seconds dial (unusual for 30-hour tall clocks as an additional gear must be added to the time train to reverse the escape wheel direction for a seconds hand. Ht 98"
ESTIMATE: $3000 - $4000
PRICE SOLD: $2300
